Sleep Dentistry in Howick
If you’ve put off getting dental care due to anxiety, you’re certainly not alone. At A+ Dentists, we are committed to providing patients with comfortable dental care, which is why we offer sleep dentistry, also known as sedation dentistry.
Sleep dentistry is particularly beneficial for those who find it difficult to undergo procedures with just the standard local anaesthetic. Additionally, research has shown that sedation dentistry is beneficial for individuals with a strong gag reflex, as sedation minimises the chances of this reflex being triggered during treatment.

Types of Sedation Options
At our practice, we offer two main types of sedation to ensure a comfortable and more anxiety-free experience for our patients:
Oral
Oral sedation involves taking relaxation medication in tablet form about an hour before the dental procedure. During this hour, the patient is closely monitored by a qualified sedation nurse and our dentist Dr Pulkit Kinra. Once the medication takes effect, we proceed with the dental treatment.
Intravenous
IV sedation involves administering the sedative medication directly into a vein in the patient’s arm. This method works quickly, as the medication enters the bloodstream directly, providing a faster onset of relaxation compared to oral sedation.
Treatments Suitable for Sleep Dentistry
Sedation can be used for a wide range of dental treatments. Whether you’re coming in for a routine cleaning or require more complex procedures like wisdom teeth removal or dental implant placement, sedation can make the experience more comfortable. We offer most of our dental services under sleep dentistry, ensuring that anxiety or a strong gag reflex doesn’t prevent you from receiving the care you need.
