Dental Crowns in Howick
Dental crowns are a special type of cover that goes over and around your tooth, providing 360-degree protection. You can almost think of them like a helmet, safeguarding the underlying tooth structure against breakage.

Do I Need One?
Dr Pulkit Kinra may recommend a crown or cap if your tooth is severely worn, fractured, or has advanced decay. You may also need a crown if your tooth has a large old filling or after root canal therapy. Ultimately, the cap is necessary when there is limited tooth structure remaining, and we want to prevent additional enamel from breaking off or fracturing.
Crowns at A+ Dentists are also used in instances where teeth are severely worn and we need to restore your bite. Since the shape of the cap can be adjusted and in line with other teeth, it allows us to raise the biting level back to its natural height.
What’s Involved?
During a dental crown procedure, Dr Pulkit will thoroughly numb the tooth. Next, he will gently prepare tooth, creating space for the crown to fit over it. After your tooth is prepared, we will take a digital intraoral scan for our lab, which will create the final cap. In the meantime, we will cover your tooth with a temporary restoration to minimise the risk of sensitivity. When your final crown is ready, you’ll return to our office to have it bonded into place.
What Are Some Alternatives?
When full-coverage protection isn’t needed, Dr Pulkit may recommend a lab-made inlay or onlay. These indirect fillings provide more reinforcement than a traditional filling but are less invasive to your tooth structure than a full crown.
How Long Do Crowns Last?
When cared for properly, most crowns can last up to 10 years or even longer. It’s important to floss around your cap daily and plan six-month checkups to have your teeth evaluated.
